Ms. Burnett, Media Specialist

After growing up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I graduated from Slippery Rock University with a B.S. in library science and elementary education. I was an officer in my sorority. The members of Kappa Delta Pi, the honorary education fraternity, voted me the outstanding senior. My Master’s Degree is from University of Central Florida. I’ve been a sixth grade teacher and media specialist in various Florida high schools, elementary and middle schools. I’ve had professional articles published, spoken at conferences and workshops, and won several educational awards and grants, including Florida's Master Teacher Award and was named 2001-2002 Teacher of the Year for Edgewater High School. In 2002, I earned the National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) title. Only 3% of the 13,000 teachers in Orange County are NBCTs.

As a media specialist, I have three roles: information specialist, teacher and instructional consultant. As an information specialist , I evaluate, select, purchase, catalog and prepare all of the media center’s resources for students and teachers to use. I help patrons find and use information on all subjects. I inform patrons of new information and resources. As a teacher, I teach lessons to classes who are researching a specific topic. I create bibliographies of our materials for students. I teach students how to use and evaluate the resources we have on their topics e.g. books, reference books, magazine indices, newspaper indices, subscription databases, Internet sites, videos, DVDs,and CDs. I also teach individual students how to find and use resources to answer their questions. As an instructional consultant, I work with teachers to help them find resources to use in their classrooms. I gather together materials and suggest ways to select, present, organize and evaluate information and resources.

When I’m not at school or at home, I work out with a personal trainer or volunteer for a pet rescue organization. I have been a member of the opera, ballet, art museum and foreign film support groups. I enjoy hiking vacations and have visited major art museums throughout the United States and in twenty-three foreign countries.

Ms. Bonicioli, Audio-Visual Clerk

Elizabeth J. Bonicioli, better known to all as Betty B, has loved working at Edgewater High School since 1992 and is a true, red and white, Eagle.

I spent my first fifteen years of life in Brooklyn, New York until my family moved to Lake Ronkonkoma, Long Island. I met my wonderful husband, Tony, at Port Jefferson High School and we dated on and off for nine years before we married. I worked at Sachem High School for ten years and for a dentist part-time until we moved to Orlando in 1967. We were blessed with a son, Robert, who attended Edgewater High School in 1989-93 and graduated from the University of West Florida in 1999 making his parents so proud of him. He is living in the Pensacola area.

In 1998, I was voted classified employee of the year by the wonderful teachers of Edgewater. I was both surprised and proud.

I have done volunteer work with the Cub and Boy Scouts for seventeen years and with my church in arts and environment, CCW and the stewardship committee.

There is little time for hobbies. I do like walking, swimming, boating, camping, reading, and being with kids.

The young people keep you "young at heart." I thank them for that.

Ms. Manganaris, Print Clerk

My name is Stephanie C. Manganaris, also known as Mrs. Mango. I joined the staff of Edgewater High School in the 2001/2002 school year, working in the library as a media clerk. I enjoy working with Ms. Burnett, Mrs. Guma, Mrs. Bonicioli and the rest of the faculty and staff. However, I am not new to Orange County Public Schools. I began working for OCPS in September, 1986 as an office clerk and teacher's aide. I helped open Meadow Woods Elementary in 1989 as their Permanent Substitute and helped in the media center. I came to Edgewater High School from Meadow Woods. Mr. Mango, my husband, teaches TV production at Edgewater High School.

When I'm not busy with my grown children, young grandchildren and pet, my hobbies are reading, crocheting and swimming. I also enjoy music, computer games, cooking and baking especially for holidays, watching new and old movies and traveling to be with family and friends.
