EST Snapshot

Edgewater High School was designated by the Orange County School Board to be the District's Magnet School for Engineering, Science and Technology beginning in the fall of 1991. Courses offered in the program include, but are not limited to: Engineering Technology, Architectural and Mechanical Drafting (CADD), Computer Graphics, Computer Animation, Game Design, Web Design (HTML), as well as the dual-enrollment courses offered by the University of Central Florida (Systems Modeling, Engineering Analysis, and Engineering Analysis of Economics). Emphasis is placed on project-driven learning, personal research, team building, problem-solving, and personal excellence.

Students from Orange County apply for limited positions as incoming freshmen. We offer a rigorous college preparatory program of studies for students who demonstrate an aptitude for math, science, and computer technology. There is a strong component in English and Social Sciences as well.

Educational Partnerships have been formed with the University of Central Florida, Siemens-Westinghouse, Orlando Society of Engineers, Orlando Science Center, Lockheed-Martin, and NASA, who serve as consultants on our program development and provide off-campus enrichment programs for our students. New opportunities are constantly sought to provide a wider variety of experiences for our students.

EST Shadowing Opportunity

Shadowing is when eighth grade students who are interested in the Engineering, Science, and Technology Magnet Program (EST) at Edgewater High School come to the Edgewater campus for a day. Shadowing is an opportunity for these students to spend a day with our ninth grade EST students by going to classes with them.

Interested students need to have their parents call our Guidance Department—407-835-4900—and contact Ms. Elizabeth Webb at extension 2232 to request a day on which they can bring a student to Edgewater.

Our classes run from 7:20 to 2:11, so students need to arrive around 7:00 in the morning and must be picked up promptly at the end of school; parents must arrange all transportation and excused absences from middle school for the day. Shadowing days will begin after November 1.
